The “Mills” (Millsboro and Milton)

Fanning across the center of Sussex County, DE are the “Mills”: Milton, Millsboro and Millville (although Millville is considered part of the Quiet Resorts). Against a backdrop of small-town charm and a rich agricultural history, lovely residential communities have emerged, many offering access to coastal waterways for fishing and boating as well as award-winning golf courses and country club living.

Milton, only 7 miles from the Delaware Bay, is one of the little old Delaware towns that prospered through shipbuilding and shipping as an inland port in the 19th century. The well-preserved downtown area boasts some of the best examples of Victorian and Colonial architecture and has 198 structures listed on National Register of Historic Places. With easy access to the Delaware Beaches, and expansive state parks (including the 10,144-acre Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge), Milton has boatloads of appeal for a broad range of home buyers. Craft beer enthusiasts will also be pleased to learn that Milton is also the home of DogFish Head Brewery, one of the fastest growing independent craft breweries in the country. It's Milton-based campus offers tours, tasting and year-round events celebrating all things “beer.”

Millsboro is a small town on the move. Only 15 miles from the Delaware coastline, Millsboro lead Sussex County in the number of residential permits issues for the last several years. Situated at the corner of Route 24 and Route 113, it is truly the intersection of rural, small town living and modern suburbia, with its convenient shopping, entertainment and dining.
